As the crowd amassed outside of St. Frances Academy in the heart of East Baltimore, you could feel the excitement in the air in anticipation for the clash of undefeated rivals. No it wasn't the Ravens and the Steelers or the Orioles and Yankees who were preparing for battle, the opposing powerhouses were the Baltimore Hawks and the DMV Warriors of Woodlawn MD. They are undoubtedly two of the elite teams of the American Basketball Associate aka THE ABA. For the last three years Baltimore's only professional basketball team, Baltimore Hawks, owned by native sons Gregory Brown Jr. and Quentin Harper has inspired, entertained and showcased some of the best basketball talent in the nation. In the midst of challenging times in Charm City, the Baltimore Hawks' dazzling display of "on the edge of your seat" excitement along with food, music and spectacular cheerleading are the perfect remedies for progressive community activity. The ABA of the 1960s & 70s that merged with the NBA in 1976 is a separate entity of the current ABA that's under the ownership of Joe Newman and Richard Tinkham. Since 2000 the league with the multicolored basketball has provided breathtaking, competitive entertainment around the country. The league features outstanding talent such as Dishawn "Pure Money" Bradshaw who graces the jersey of the Baltimore Hawks and Terry Hosley Jr, son of legendary Baltimore hoopster Terry Hosley Sr., of the DMV Warriors.
